renewable energy projects

TIPP CITY, Ohio, Jan. 8, 2015 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — Bellbrook-Sugarcreek Schools has partnered with Energy Optimizers, USA, to launch a $1.8 million dollar energy conservation project that is expected to generate at least $178,375 in savings annually on utility and related maintenance costs.

Energy-saving upgrades will be made to all of the district’s buildings. Those upgrades include:
* Replacement of interior lighting with more efficient lamps and remove unneeded lamps to cut waste;
* Replacement of exterior lighting with LED technology to improve energy efficiency while enhancing building safety, appearance and security;
* Replacement of the building’s aging boilers with more energy-efficient models;
* Replacement of the high school’s outdated chiller with a more energy-efficient model;
* Addition of energy-saving features in the kitchens;
* Enhancements to the building’s temperature controls and install advanced energy management programming to improve energy conservation.

Projected energy savings are guaranteed for three years, and the payback for the upgrades is just over 9 years. Funding for the $1,794,860 project is provided through the Ohio School Facilities Commission’s House Bill 264 (HB 264) program, enabling the district to make these cost-cutting improvements at no expense to taxpayers. Under the HB 264 program, the energy savings cover the cost of the financing used to fund the projects.

“This is a project that clearly benefits everyone,” said Superintendent Keith St. Pierre. “We are making these improvements at no cost to our taxpayers, we will be saving more than $178,000 yearly in taxpayer dollars once the project is complete, we are improving the interior climate to make our buildings more comfortable, and our buildings will operate more cleanly and efficiently.”

In addition, as part of the project, Energy Optimizers, USA, will work with the district to establish a Green Team to educate students about energy management concepts and careers in STEM fields. In addition to funding the team for two years, Energy Optimizers, USA, will provide Ohio Energy Project academic materials that are aligned to Ohio’s academic content standards. Green Team members will take part in STEM-related activities that are focused on energy conservation, while encouraging their peers to become more environmentally conscious.

Energy Optimizers, USA, promotes Green Teams in all of its school-related energy conservation projects.

“As a company, we feel so strongly about energy conservation that we make education a large component of what we do,” said Bob Hausmann, Director of Operations for Energy Optimizers, USA. “Large-scale projects like these, backed by the educational resources provided to the Green Teams, allow the buildings to become real-world case studies for the students to study. We are also helping students bridge their classroom studies with career fields, hopefully inspiring more engineers and energy management professionals.”
